Part Thirteen — Caring for the Body: The Other Half of the Machine
The mind and the body heal each other — tend to both.
Let me say this plainly. This book is about the mind, because that is where I have done my deepest work. The body is different — I am not a doctor and won't pretend to be one. But I believe one simple thing: mind, body, and soul are one machine, and all three have to run together for any of it to work. A clear mind in a neglected body is only half a life.
For most of my life, I never gave my body a second thought. I poured everything into other things — building wealth, chasing love, winning. I smoked for nearly thirty years. I ate whatever tasted good — the sauces, the fried, the sweet — all the things that comfort you while they quietly take from you. It was only in recent years that I woke up to a truth I had missed: this body is the one thing I can never trade in.
And here is what took the weight off my guilt — that food was built to own me. Modern junk food is engineered to hit the same switch in the brain as a drug: one bite, and you crave the next. It was never about willpower. Then, three weeks before my ceremony, I ate truly clean for the first time — no sugar, no sauce, no processed food, just real food. And something strange happened: I could finally taste it. I had been eating my whole life and had never once tasted my food.
Mind · Body · Soul = One
So here is everything I know, kept simple:
- Eat clean. Real, whole food, close to how it grows. If it was made in a factory or sold in a packet, it's processed — make that the exception, not the everyday.
- Cut the sweet stuff. No sugar or sugary drinks. Skip the deep-fried food and go easy on heavy sauces. And if you smoke, stop.
- Eat less, less often. Give your body a rest between meals so it can repair instead of always digesting.
- Move every day. Raise your heart rate, and lift some weights — muscle is the armor that protects you when you grow old.
- Breathe and sleep well. A few slow breaths calm the machine, and good sleep is when the body rebuilds.
Beyond that, stay curious and find what fits your body — everyone's is different. People swear by ice baths, saunas, red light therapy, oxygen chambers, supplements. Try what calls to you, and listen to your own body. The earlier you start, the better the body you will carry for the rest of your life.
I won't pretend I do all of this perfectly — old habits are hard, and I still slip. I am no health guru, just a man who woke up late and is trying to do better. But this is the whole point: you are built from what you eat, breathe, and do. Your cells renew over time, so in a real sense you are rebuilding your body every day. Feed it junk and you build a junk machine; feed it well and you build a temple. Bring the same consciousness to your body that you bring to your mind. Start today — not perfectly, just consciously. You only get one.
The mind and the body heal each other — tend to both.
